Across Texas, real estate prices rose in 2012, and the trend is expected to continue this year. It’s particularly good news for Dallas home owners who saw significant gains. In fact, most major cities in the state saw home prices increase, but nowhere was the median price gain larger than in Abilene.
Below is a list of median home price changes across Texas as supplied by Realtor.com, which includes the change in median home prices from the third quarter of 2011 to the third quarter of 2012 (the percentage) and the last reported median home price in November 2012:
2012 Median Home Price Changes Across Texas:
- Abilene: +12% ($135,700)
- Amarillo: +6.9% ($140,000)
- Austin – Round Rock: +6.7% ($207,900)
- Corpus Christi: +8.1% ($146,600)
- Dallas – Forth Worth – Arlington: +8.8% ($165,200)
- El Paso: +4.7% ($124,100)
- Houston – Baytown – Sugar Land: +5.0% ($167,500)
- San Antonio: +3.6% ($161,900)
Because of growing demand and an overall change for the better with the economy at large, Texas real estate prices are expected to continue rising in 2013. Texas was somewhat shielded from the boom and bust cycles that plagued other real estate markets in the U.S. Home prices have risen modestly in Texas and at a pace that has protected the state’s real estate market when prices were climbing at a reckless pace elsewhere.
Prospective home buyers can continue to see prices go up in 2013, and may have a hard time finding the Dallas home of their dreams because of a dip in inventory. Then again, as more sellers realize the strength of the real estate market, more could come back to market and begin listing their homes once again, giving buyers a bigger selection of Dallas homes from which to choose.
